Challenge between baby chefs
Let’s start in the afternoon to let him enjoy the party atmosphere, actively involving the children of the house in organizing the dinner. “If your children are five or older, you can divide them into “teams”, assign them recipes and have a small cooking competition (which obviously provides prizes for all classified). Focus on simple recipes, which do not involve the use of the stove. A few examples? Tramezzini cut out of bread with cookie molds, mousse with fresh cheese, bresaola and goat rolls closed with a bow with chives, “creative” canapes with round biscuits, where olives can become capers eyes and mouth “. This will help you to flesh out the area of the table dedicated to aperitifs and will make the children feel the protagonists of the dinner.
A ban on bingo with dried beans: the perfect diversion to get from the end of the dinner to the countdown is the treasure hunt, involving participants aged 2 to 90. «If the children are small, the cards that will guide them to discover the treasures cannot be textual, but must contain images (if you are not skilled designers, make collages from magazines or use photos found on the internet). Try to guide them between hiding places with phrases like: “Let’s see what’s behind this curtain…” because especially the little ones tend to get bored quickly ». If the children are aged 7 and up, you can begin to involve the cognitive sphere, and write more complex notes such as “take 8 steps minus one to go in the right direction of the clue”.
Auction of works of art
If you have not managed to find the time to hide notes and surprises under the sofa, do not despair: there is always the “last minute creative workshop” option. «Prepare the living room adequately with newspapers spread out on the ground to prevent it from painting everywhere, and always provide the inter-generational teams with sheets and colors to unleash the imagination. Organize a competition to reward the most beautiful painting: you can guide the artistic compositions by giving a theme, such as “Chasing away bad thoughts for the arrival of the new year”, or “wishes and good intentions for the coming year”. The categories to be awarded will obviously be many, to give everyone the opportunity to receive recognition: originality, color, subject, technique used are just some of the possible options ».
We then move on to the table. «Another idea, adaptable to all ages of children, is the “table equipment competition”, which also includes big aunts and cousins in the team. Assign each team a task, such as the arrangement of the candles, the creation of the place cards, the folding of the napkins, the drafting of the evening menu on a parchment-like paper: everything will be evaluated by the jury made up of mom and dad. For the construction of decorations to put on the tablecloth, you can easily use buttons, pine cones and pieces of paper and fabric found at home: all very simple, natural and low cost things ».
