Summer has arrived and it is finally possible to spend some pleasant family time by the sea, in the mountains, in parks or in foreign cities. If you have not yet chosen what to do, a solution that can suit both parents and children is the dog trekking, which is a very relaxing activity to do in nature. We asked the Tarvisio Tourist Board to better explain what dog trekking actually is and to indicate where it can be practiced.
Dog trekking is an activity that consists of an excursion on foot, accompanied by a trained dog and secured to the person with a special harness. It is a sport that can be enjoyed by everyone, including children aged six and over.
With the guidance of an expert instructor it is possible to learn the techniques of this sport and thus discover the landscape aspects of the chosen route.

Dog trekking is a great sport for the whole family and is fun and educational. It usually takes place outdoors, in contexts with a breathtaking view.
In addition, it allows children to discover nature from a different point of view and to socialize with man’s best friend par excellence: the dog, true protagonist of the activity.
Tarvisio is an enchanted place, nestled in the Julian Alps, and is a UNESCO World Reserve. Here is the largest state-owned forest in Italy: 24,000 hectares of alpine area, of which 15,000 are covered with productive woods. (Read also: Children in the mountains, tips and itineraries for families)
Crossed by the Fella river, the Tarvisio area extends up to the border with Austria and Slovenia, along the entire Valcanale and the Slizza valley.
It represents one of the most precious naturalistic areas in Italy and one of the most complete fauna systems in the Alps. The area where dog trekking activities take place is the basin of the Fusine lakes, one of the most fascinating places in the region.
The natural environment, in which there are typical animals and plants, changes according to the seasons: nature shows its infinite ranges of color by painting the woods and lakes with unique shades and making this site even more magical. In the summer the atmosphere of these places is even more pleasant.
