In this period of isolation at home due to the Coronavirus emergency it is important to recreate new habits, organize the day, impose rules and new rhythms, without forgetting the importance of physical activity that can be carried out, with due attention, even in home. Sport is also important for those who are pregnant and are experiencing this period of quarantine with a greater dose of anxieties and fears.
In pregnancy, experts recommend eat well (a varied and balanced healthy diet) and of doing physical activity. Even one is enough walk half an hour a day, but at the time of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus, this is not possible. In addition, there may be other situations that can prevent future mothers from going out for a walk.
But it is important not to give up a healthy physical activity, which is essential for the body, but also for the mind. We asked Chiara Mandò, fitness instructor and researcher in nutrition sciences at the University of Milan, where she mainly deals with molecular research on the pathologies of pregnancy, to prepare an exercise program to do at home for pregnant women who follow us.
The result is three videos, one for each trimester of pregnancy, with a series of exercises to be faced with your favorite music in the background, a nice smile on your lips and attention to listening to your body and its needs.
The program can also be carried out in very small homes. These are simple exercises to perform that are also aimed at those who are not used to playing sports. But it is important to know who it is a program dedicated to healthy women who have an uncomplicated pregnancy (those who suffer from any specific problem are advised to consult their doctor before starting any training).
The important thing – underlines Mandò – is to always respect the body and its needs. Which does not mean not to struggle, but not to overdo it and take the time necessary to carry out the activities or to recover after doing them.
There are two main objectives of the program:
- keep metabolism active to improve the functioning of the mother-placenta-fetus “system”
- stimulate the muscular system, essential during pregnancy, but also during childbirth
