I had a very tiring time with Laura, the famous crises. They make the child sick, crying, sleepless nights, finally affecting the family and all routine.
Talking to other moms, I have observed that they also go through this and have doubts, because when the child’s behavior changes, we soon think, what will it be?
So let’s talk a little bit about what it is, how to identify and help our children in this period called Developmental jumps.

What is Developmental Leap?
The Developmental Leap is when the baby is developing a new skill, such as smiling, crawling, walking.
These changes bring insecurity, because they are sensations and feelings unknown. SoThe world again becomes a strange place, making the baby need to be safe again, that is, back to the “mommy’s collar”!
That’s why babies are so needy, crying for everything, suckling more or less and waking up several times in the night.
There are some periods of accelerated development and others where there is a slowdown.
What can happen is to wake up at each sleep cycle to train the new skills they are acquiring, and in this awakening is that babies need their parents to go back to sleep, which directly affects the quality of our sleep.

Developmental Jump, when do they occur?
They can occur between one and six weeks. Depends on each child. Below table with approximate periods that jumps can occur:
How long does this process last?
How can we identify?
Usually babies act the same way, what can happen is some being more, others being less.
- They become more needy and need lap and maternal security; mother comfort;
- If you feed less (eat or suck);
- She cries during the night, without explanation, returning to sleep only with the presence of her parents;
- Refuses other people’s lap, just wanting Mom’s;
- He starts doing things he didn’t do, like laughing, sitting, crawling, interacting;
- Show happiness at the end of the crisis, with the development acquired.
What can we do to help?
In these phases, patience and empathy with the baby are necessary, because after this process of acquiring new skills, he will make a leap in his development and show happiness with the end of the ‘crisis’.
All this is just a very important phase for the child’s development, it is fleeting, and will soon return to normal.
Not forgetting that each baby develops and grows at different rates.
A lot of love, care and affection, no matter what stage the baby is in is always essential in his upbringing.
“Take advantage of your time together to create a healthy affective relationship full of strong bonds, for it is something that will stay and define your relationship for life.
