“The disease affects millions of Brazilians of reproductive age and is the main cause of female infertility”
Endometriosis is a progressive disease that causes infertility at a high stage and in some cases can even lead to death. It is important to note that having the disease is not synonymous with not being able to get pregnant, but the chance of pregnancy decreases considerably. Late diagnosis can be a reason for infertility, so be careful.
According to Dr. Fábio Broner, Gynecologist at, “There is no way to prevent it, however, there is a treatment to improve the condition, that is, the objectives are to reduce pain and increase the possibility of pregnancy. Hormonal treatment is not always the most appropriate indication, there are reports that the sooner the cauterization of the foci, the better the outcome in the proposed treatments, however, in the case of profound endometriosis associated with infertility, the more appropriate would be to indicate in Vitro Fertilization ” .
The endometrium is the tissue that lines the uterus preparing it for the embryo, and when fertilization does not occur, plaques of endometrial tissue are eliminated during menstruation, however, these plaques may settle outside the uterus, causing adhesion and infiltration processes outbreaks in neighboring organs, reaching the intestine, ovaries and bladder, resulting in endometriosis. In addition, it can trigger chronic pain, even outside the menstrual period, which does not improve with analgesic medications. “Some symptoms of the disease are: pelvic pain, very associated with cyclic periods, which can radiate to the lower limbs and lumbar region, pain in the menstrual period, intercourse with penetration, urinary symptoms and symptoms related to intestinal transit, in some cases dysfunctional uterine bleeding can also occur ”, explains the doctor at Hospital Albert Sabin.
