Going to the doctor is only recommended in cases of emergency and needs extra attention from parents when preparing to leave with their children. We know that for the control of the new coronavirus, the main orientation is to avoid agglomeration and to remain in social isolation.
However, there are situations that can make parents need to take their child to the doctor, such as domestic accidents, serious illnesses, among others.
Coronavirus and outings to the doctor: know how to protect your children
Check out some necessary care when taking the children to hospital:
1. carry your child in your arms
Ideally, parents should carry their children in their lap in environments such as hospitals, as it is not possible to control which surfaces are contaminated or not.
2. If you can, go by car
Whether with your own vehicle or in an application car, it is believed that the hygiene of the vehicle is more controlled and kept up-to-date. For children who will need to be taken on public transport, adults need to be even more aware to keep them safe in their lap.
It is important to be alert to the act of the little one taking his hand to his eyes, nose and mouth. If the child touches a surface in the middle of the road, always have an alcohol gel within reach for cleaning. When you arrive at the hospital, wash your child’s hands with soap and water.
3. Put a mask on the child
According to the new guidance from the Ministry of Health, children over 2 years old also need to wear masks to go to the hospital or pediatrician’s office. They are super important to decrease droplet exchange between people.
However, for the mask to be effective, it needs to completely cover the nose and mouth. And parents should keep an eye out so that the little one doesn’t touch often. When removing it, avoid touching the outside of the mask and always remove the elastics.
4. Choose long clothes
Children, especially minors, may have the habit of putting other parts of the body in contact with the mouth, nose and eyes. If possible, wear a shoe with a closed sock, long trousers and a long-sleeved blouse. This way, they will act as a barrier to the virus.
However, if the place the family lives is too hot, at least prioritize the pants with the shoe.
5. Care of the maternity pouch
Before you leave the house, pass a cloth with 70 alcohol in your maternity pouch. If the material is cotton, wash it with soap and water gently. Take what is strictly necessary so that the chances of contamination decrease.
Another option is to transfer products into packaging that can be thrown away. For example, instead of taking the whole ointment in the large tube, you put only what is necessary to use in a disposable pot.
6. Hygiene on arrival at home
Finally, on returning home, the clothes need to go straight to the washing machine. The child and parents need to take a bath from head to toe, which includes washing their hair. If you cannot give your child a bath immediately, at least wash your hand and face.
