Breastfeeding specialist develops protocol with laser therapy and achieves 100% success in patients
Breastfeeding is a natural practice, capable of bringing numerous benefits for the baby, as well as for the mother and the family. The advantages of breastfeeding are many: it promotes a deep interaction between mother and child; helps in the child’s motor and emotional development; makes the mother’s uterus return to natural size faster; decreases the risk of postpartum hemorrhage and, consequently, of anemia in the mother; helps women return to their weight before pregnancy more quickly and reduces the risk of breast and ovarian cancer. With all these benefits, moms seek to offer this, which is the most complete food for their babies. But many find it difficult.
One is the issue of having inverted nipples, which can be a congenital anomaly. These are nipples that contract or protrude inward when stimulated and have a flat appearance, slightly inverted or quite inverted in the center. According to Cíntia Matieli, breastfeeding consultant and founder of Mommy’s Angel maternal consultancy, “inverted nipples can make breastfeeding difficult to start, while mother and baby are still adapting, but it doesn’t necessarily prevent it. In the correct grip, the child sucks a large part of the breast, and not only the nipple. The breast stretches at the time of feeding, and the nipple is at the bottom of the baby’s mouth, almost in the throat. For that, it is essential to work with a breastfeeding specialist ”, comments Cíntia.
And he adds: “there are still degrees of difficulty in gripping according to the level of the inverted nipple. That is why other types of treatment are necessary, such as laser therapy ”, explains the consultant.
This was the case for Monique Souza, mother of baby Lívia, who is now 2 months old. She sought out Cíntia about a month before giving birth, for having inverted nipples in grade three, which is considered a congenital anomaly. “This was a case in which I had a great challenge, as it is a genetic inheritance, in the Monique family. On the father’s part, all the aunts and also the father himself have their nipples inverted. I studied a lot about techniques to help this mother without using any accessories for the act of breastfeeding ”, points out Cíntia.
According to the professional, one of the protocols for the use of laser therapy in the breast tissue of puerperal women has the function of preventing wounds and fissures, preventing edema, local drainage in case of breast engorgement and others. “However, through the technique using the low power laser I was able to go further, carrying out a unique protocol, a protrusion of the nipple in a natural and successful way”, explains Cíntia.
The creator of the technique says that in principle it would be an experiment, but the positive result surprised her since the laser treatment was started on the same day of delivery, always defending the skin contact between the mother and baby dyad, and the direct work with light therapy in breast tissue.
Cíntia says that despite testing the use of an electric pump as an adjunct treatment, none had the specific performance without subjecting the patient to painful stimuli in the periods when she tried to massage and stimulate the flow of breast milk through this mechanism that would make breastfeeding even easier. of the baby. Therefore, he preferred to continue with only low-level laser treatment with 24-hour intervals between sessions.
The baby’s mother says that this was her second pregnancy and decided to look for Cíntia because the first time she was unable to breastfeed. “This time, I really wanted to offer breast milk to my baby. I am very happy with the results and the best, without pain, without wounds, without trauma ”, is proud Monique, mother of baby Lívia.
Cíntia celebrates the advancement of technology: “We know it is a long journey, but today I can say that it is possible, yes, for a woman to breastfeed without an intermediate nipple, even with inverted nipples, through this technique that I have worked so hard to develop, without trauma , without cracks, without pain, only with techniques and technology. At no time do we use a silicone nozzle. We work the breast, we train the baby to take and support the mother in terms of position, and all matters involving the act of breastfeeding. We are very happy with the result ”, concludes Cíntia, who has already put the technique under study under the responsibility of a master in Genetics and also her teacher in the Physiotherapy course at a college in Rio de Janeiro.
