They call it the Folliage train and it is one of the most beautiful paths that can be done in the coming months with children to dive into the autumn atmosphere and experience at 360 ° the emotion of the leaves that change color and of the woods that greet the summer to wrap themselves in the colors and typical atmospheres of the cold season.
Along a route of 52 km, of which about thirty in Italy and 20 in Switzerland, the Folliage Train connects Domodossola and Locarno and offers the possibility, at the price of a single ticket valid for one or two days, to make an intermediate stop to visit one of the many picturesque villages along the route.
The path that winds through three valleys – Ossola Valley, Val Vigezzo is Centovalli – and is characterized by breathtaking views and spectacular landscapes, it has been defined by the Lonely Planet as the most scenic in Italy.
Along the way you pass through woods and forests that seem to have been painted by an impressionist painter, you cross 83 bridges, you pass 31 galleries. All in less than two hours.
The formula, which this year is revived despite the anti-Covid regulations, provides for a return ticket valid for one or two days which also allows an intermediate stop to be added to the two terminus – Domodossola and Locarno – which both certainly deserve a visit.
In addition to the panoramic tour, events and events are planned along the entire route to further involve passengers and guide them towards a total autumn immersion:
in Locarno do not miss the Farmer’s Market and the 21st edition of the Gastronomic Autumn of Lake Maggiore and Valleys, scheduled until 25 October; to Santa Maria Maggiore,on October 17 and 18, the 15th edition called Out of Pumpkin, a fun event suitable for young and old; also in Locarno, for art lovers, the immersive exhibition Klimt Experience, dedicated to the master of the Viennese Secession.
