Uncertainty is perhaps one of the most representative words of this time, with a defiant gaze and a grim air, which still today calls children, adolescents and adults to grapple with unprecedented trials and obstacles, which everyone can cope with with the resources available both to both personal and social context level. Operation anything but simple!
At this moment, in fact, one can feel a bit like the porcupines described by the philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer who, with the arrival of winter, have to organize themselves to find their balance: if they get too close, they stay warm but they sting each other, while if they stay too far apart, they suffer from the cold. In order to be able to deal with uncertainty and to seek a stable and at the same time flexible position, then, everyone can refer to precisely those elements that, despite everything, remain certain: even if they are far away for reasons of protection, for example, the grandparents important and significant affective figures remain; the walls of the house, although sometimes narrow, welcome, protect and bring the family together around typical moments and places, such as the table, which mark everyday life on a regular basis; relationships with friends, schoolmates and colleagues they do not interrupt and can, on the contrary, continue to be cultivated at a distance, also enriching themselves with new nuances.
In this sense, the great protagonist of the current period is undoubtedly the technology, a tool that in its various forms – from social networks to video calls, from video games to streaming music, from emails to blogs – allows you to maintain daily commitments, access moments of leisure and take care of affections and relationships. Certainly, however, the Internet connection and electronic devices do not represent only an opportunity, but also present risk aspects related to the time and method of use, as well as to certain web contents. And when it comes to digital It is good to keep in mind both of these aspects which, moreover, can be particularly strengthened by the current situation and the one just passed. Especially for those who, like children and adolescents, are looking for certainties to gradually build their own identity, technology can in fact become, in this uncertain time, a welcoming refuge and modeling clay or, vice versa, an intricate labyrinth and glue between the hands.
The Pollicino Association and the Onlus Parents Crisis Center has always operated in the belief that each subject is unique and different and that, with reference to the developmental age, the true experts of a growing subject are its parents. This is why Pollicino considers it essential to give the word to mothers and fathers and to listen to them, not only through the interview procedure: to investigate the relationship of minors with digital technology during this period of health emergency, an online search was also carried out – “Digit-aliens at the time of quarantine “ – addressed to parents with children aged between 5 and 18 years. The tool of this survey is a questionnaire, anonymous and that can be filled in in a few minutes at the following link: https://forms.gle/gXUFG8hXEkxhTVRW9.
We therefore invite all parents to be able to participate in the research! A large number of responses will ensure a more precise reading of the situation and thus allow the setting up of adequate awareness and prevention projects.
The research “Digit-aliens at the time of quarantine” is active and available, together with numerous interactive contents created by the Pollicino Association and the Onlus Parent Crisis Center, also on the “Time4child” platform (https://www.time4child.com/il -programma /), digital initiative from 9 to 22 November 2020, dedicated to parents and children: workshops, live events, on-demand content on numerous topics, including mind, health, sustainability and food
