At Christmas the solidarity initiatives multiply. This year, however, we want to point out to you this one that seemed to us the most interesting of all, also for the formula with which it is built.
THE Grandchildren of Santa Claus is a project supported byAssociation One Smile in More which has it aim to realize the dream of an elderly person who lives alone in a nursing home by giving him a small gift and, if possible (but it is not mandatory), giving him some of his time.
It has only existed for a couple of years (the first edition is in 2018) but it has already received a huge consensus (last year 43 retirement homes joined the initiative, 800 wishes were made and more than € 5,000 were donated to project support).
HOW DOES IT WORK
On the site www.nipotidibabbonatale.it acts as an aggregator for all the hospices in Italy participating in the initiative and collects, in a single point, the dreams expressed by grandparents and grandmothers who live in the retirement home. Each of them expressed a wish (small and not always material things to receive on Christmas day: a chocolate salami, the Alpini t-shirt, a wool cap, a pair of slippers, a magazine subscription to pass the days, an MP3 player to listen to music without disturbing other guests …).
There really is something for all tastes and for all prices.
Those who wish to participate choose the wish they want to fulfill and realize it by purchasing directly and bringing (or sending) the gift to the old man or woman he has chosen to ‘adopt’.
No wire transfers, no money transfers. You buy the gift and you have it (the best thing would be to bring it personally) to the person who requested it.
SOME EXAMPLE OF DESIRE (already realized)
Giuliano (70 years old): puzzles
Piera (98 years old): chocolate cake
Estirma (88 years): cubes of parmesan
Maria Antonia (75 years): women’s shirt
Angela (99 years old): Padre Pio’s photos and magazines
Leonilde (107 years old): subscription to Mickey Mouse
(At the moment all wishes are sold out. Hopefully more hospices and wishes will be loaded in the next few days).
