Pink Discharge: Causes & Online Treatment
Possible causes: Pink discharge is usually harmless and is often related to your period or hormone fluctuations and the associated intermenstrual bleeding. Small amounts of blood can color the vaginal secretions pink. The implantation bleeding of the egg cell at the beginning of a pregnancy is often associated with a pink discoloration. If the pink vaginal discharge is accompanied by itching, an infection is the possible cause. If the bleeding occurs for a long time or with every period, or if the pain is severe, conditions such as endometriosis, cysts or a malignant change may be behind the symptoms.
Then a doctor’s appointment is necessary: If the bleeding does not subside, if it becomes more severe or if it is accompanied by other symptoms (e.g. pain, fever or itching), the patient should consult a doctor. If pink discharge develops during pregnancy, it must be taken seriously as bleeding can pose a risk to both mother and child.
The doctor does: The doctor will ask you about your symptoms, the day of your cycle, a possible pregnancy and previous illnesses. On the basis of this information, he can usually already assess what is causing the symptoms. To confirm the suspicion, the doctor will take a smear or an ultrasound.
