Among the thousands of doubts and the thousands of controversies that animated the debate relating to the return to school, one of the most frequent ones concerned above all the use or not, in class, of masks.
The Technical Scientific Committee, in fact, opted for the yes, some parents, doctors and pediatricians, on the other hand, were oriented towards the no.
Who won in the end?
The so-called ‘middle way’.
NURSERY CHILDREN AND KINDERGARTEN SCHOOL
The use of the mask it is never obligatory for the children of the nursery and kindergarten that they should not use it either inside the structure or when carrying out activities in the classroom.
It will be the task of teachers and educators to ensure that the required hygiene measures are respected (frequent washing of hands, cleaning of common places, immediate removal of children who show malaise or symptoms similar to those of Covid).
The great unknown with respect to the use of the mask concerned the primary school: too big to eliminate it completely, too small to wear it continuously throughout the day.
How to behave then?
A very long battle was fought on the terrain of the masks. Parents unfavorable to continued use have made their voices heard, on social media and among institutions.
The themes on the plate were many: from the lack of true eye contact (made of smiles, pouting, words that are muffled) with classmates and teachers to the fear that, in the long run, wearing the mask for many consecutive hours could even be harmful to the health.
In the end, a compromise was reached: children must always wear masks at the entrance to school and at the exit, in the corridors, when they go to the bathroom and when it is impossible to guarantee the spacing of one meter.
On the other hand, it is not mandatory in the canteen (where the canteen is guaranteed), during gymnastic hours, for outdoor activities and in the classroom in static conditions when the distance is respected.or.
There are those who have proposed the use of transparent masks (already on sale on the market) to avoid excessive repercussions on the psyche of the little ones.
FIRST DEGREE SECONDARY SCHOOL
Middle school kids weren’t pardoned up to this point. In first and second grade secondary schools, in fact, the use of the mask is always mandatory unless there is an epidemiological situation of low viral circulation.
The mask will not be mandatory for children with disabilities or psycho-physical disorders.
