1. Your body at 36 weeks
With the 36th week of pregnancy you are now at the beginning of the last month, which is why you can hardly wait to finally be able to hold your baby in your arms. Of course, the thoughts are now also about the upcoming birth and life with a child. Feel free to ask any questions that come to mind. A conversation with the midwife can help you in this case, as can sharing experiences with family, friends or other mothers. If you feel better mentally, you can remain more relaxed until the birth, which is important for your body and your baby.
2. Your baby at 36 weeks pregnant
With a current weight of around 2,600 g and a height of around 47 cm, your baby will gain almost 1 kg in the next few weeks. In the 36th week of pregnancy, however, the small feet are already a considerable size of around 7 cm. In addition, he is now awake more and more often and is already training his eyes by blinking regularly. The development of the lungs and the central nervous system is progressing rapidly and is approaching the last stage of development.
3. Complaints and symptoms at 36 weeks’ gestation
In the 36th week of pregnancy you will probably find it much easier to breathe than before, although at times you may experience discomfort when sitting on a hard chair. These symptoms often appear after the baby has settled. This means that it has already slipped deeper into your pelvis and the head may already be entering the so-called small pelvis and thus pressing on the pelvic floor. As a result, you will probably feel your baby less often because it has little room to move. The small feet therefore step up from time to time and the head bumps against the pelvic floor. However, if you are unsure whether your child is still moving properly, you should consult your doctor or midwife immediately.
4. Preterm birth at 36 weeks gestation
In the case of a premature birth in the 36th week of pregnancy, your baby is almost no longer a premature baby, because newborns born after this week of pregnancy are considered term. The chances of survival are therefore extremely high and the typical risks of a premature baby are almost completely eliminated. All of your baby’s organs, bodily functions and senses are almost fully developed, so you can stay relaxed from now on.
5. This is important now
At this point you should make the preparations for the postpartum period, as shopping and cooking should certainly not be on the agenda in the first few weeks after the birth. Stocking up on groceries and pre-cooking menus will make the first few days with your baby easier.
6. You can put this to good use now
Preparations for the stay in the hospital make sense in the 36th week of pregnancy, because it can start at any time. That’s why you should start packing your hospital bag now, or at least create a checklist. This way you make sure that you have everything with you when things suddenly start up.
7. My 36th week of pregnancy (10/23/2016-10/29/2016)
This week started with Finn and I just missing our last appointment for childbirth class. For no particular reason. We just sat on the couch that evening and didn’t think about it at all. At 10 in the evening I realized that we missed him. Something like that always makes me super uncomfortable and I immediately called my midwife the next day. Luckily she was more amused and said it was a shame for us but it wasn’t a big problem. Still, I was pretty annoyed about it.
At the end of the week there was an event I had been looking forward to for a long time: the baby shower. Many of my friends don’t live just around the corner, so it’s especially nice when everyone is there. We didn’t do it in the traditional way because we also invited partners and Finn’s friends and it was a really great evening. 🙂 I can only recommend such an evening, because you can sit and laugh with your friends in peace for the last time. Once the baby is here it probably won’t be that easy (especially having so many people visiting at once, some of whom also slept with us) so I was very happy that it all worked out so well has.
