Does your child not read well, cannot write and does not know the multiplication tables? Perhaps his problem is due to Specific Learning Disorders: let’s see what they are
Specific learning disorders what they are
Dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia: difficult words to indicate a series of disorders that are grouped into Specific Learning Disorders (DSA). If you’ve ever asked yourself these questions, refer to your son or daughter:
- Why can’t he read?
- Why do you write so badly?
- Why doesn’t he know the times tables?
then maybe his problem is due to the Specific Learning Disorders (DSA). Let’s see What are, what are the symptoms and what we can do.

Specific Learning Disorders definition
There are several types of ASD:
It is the difficulty of checking written code, a difficulty that concerns the ability to read and write correctly and fluently.
It is the difficulty of making graphemes manually in an automatic, legible and fluent way. The writing is often indecipherable even for the author himself
It is the difficulty in the numerical elaboration and processing system and in the calculation system with compromise of the arithmetic skills that involve the automation of the procedures
It is the difficulty in correctly translating the sounds that make up words into graphic symbols; it presents itself with systematic errors
The inability to use the hands for complex tasks such as holding a pen or modeling clay or clay is sometimes connected, especially in kindergarten children, with a slight delay in speech or the inability to pronounce certain sounds.
Until recently, only dyslexia was known, then, over time, other types of learning disabilities have also emerged and some of them (such as dyspraxia) still hovers great disinformation even by experts.
What are the causes of dyslexia and other ASDs?
Experts now agree on the genetic nature of these problems. And the problems psychological often linked to these disorders would be a consequence and not the cause. So, even if parents often overload their children with expectations related to school performance, even if the school seems to have taken on an increasingly accelerated pace, the fact remains that with an SLD you are born and the important thing is to recognize the problem and treat it promptly thanks to the help of a serious professional.
Treat dyslexiafor example, it is possible, even if you cannot solve the problem completely. It is a disorder of nature neurobiological which cannot be cured, but speech therapists today have interesting and effective tools at their disposal to be able to offer the child adequate therapies that help him learn to read gradually.
Specific disorders of normative learning
The fact that we talk more and more often about ASD has meant that lately someone has wondered if we are not exaggerating and if there is an excessive carelessness in classifying simple difficulties related to the ability of the individual child as learning disabilities. Difficulty that could only be filled with a little more effort and patience.
In reality, the Italian Dyslexia Association specifies that according to national scientific data and to the Guidelines published by the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, the diagnosis of Specific Learning Disorder should concern the 3.5% of school-age children, while instead only 1% of them (therefore one in four dyslexic children) receives one diagnosis certain and adequate therapy. In short, there is much more talk of dyslexia than in the past and therefore it seems that only today children have become dyslexic or have to deal with an SLD. Instead, it was simply only realized that the problem exists, also thanks to the introduction of the new rules of the law 170 of 2010 which recognizes dysgraphia / dysorthography and dyscalculia as disorders of the graphic sign, spelling and calculation area, intervenes to avoid isolation and frustration for children in school and daily activities and also provides for a specific need for preparation for teachers.
