Paper games: origami, crafts, activities to do with children aged 3 and older. Easy origami and shapes with paper
We all learned it in this last year, especially during the quarantine: at home we have a lot of materials and ideas to organize creative activities together with our children and sometimes it is enough to carve out just a little time and peace to see memories of our childhood emerge, to let your imagination run free and invent small jobs, activities with simple things, easily available at home. It is the case of card games, with which we can build board games, origami, crafts and much more. Here are many ideas and tutorials to get to work.

You worked with paper
Paper is undoubtedly the easiest material to recover at home: basically just sheets, glue and colors are enough to give life to numerous jobs and games. For example:
- creations with papier-mâché
We give the children simple sheets of paper and make lines with a pencil to create many squares and shapes of different sizes. Let the children color as they like and then cut out all the pieces and then glue them as we like on another sheet to create a real mosaic. We can also draw the shape of an animal with a pencil and the children will fill it with colored pieces.
Creations with papier-mâché
Arianna Borraccino from the “Ciao Tata” playroom shows us in this video how to use papier-mâché to create hats and crowns for our children.
Paper games to cut out
My children love to invent board games and to do so they use paper on which they draw the board, rules and scores, and sometimes they make dice and pawns using paper, fornixes, glue and colors. Therefore, I propose some ideas for building a DIY party game.
Game of the Goose
First of all we use a nice large sheet on which we will draw the path with the boxes. Within each square we draw obstacles or bonuses and color everything. We can also insert some fun activities to do during the game, for example “sing a song”, “Make monster sounds” etc ..
We use as pawns small objects that we already have at home e to make the paper dice here is a video which explains how to proceed.
Monopoly … our way
One day they love we can build a Pokemon-themed board game, and another the same character-themed game from their favorite video game (we’re in the Brawl Stars phase). They will love drawing their favorite characters and inventing themed targets and boxes.
Obviously we all have French or Neapolitan cards at home and the famous UNO. But we can also carve out a deck of cards ourselves and create a card game with our own rules.
A classic of games to be built with paper: and children will be able to choose themselves which subjects and drawings to insert on the various tiles.
Game of rain and rainbows
You can print the template on this site: the aim is to walk the board to reach the sun. You can go over the rainbow, but be careful because if you land on the cloud square with rain you have to go back.
Paper dolls are one of the great classics of gods card games. These are silhouettes of dolls, male or female, but also babies, which must be cut out and then dressed with clothes and accessories, also made of paper.
To build your own paper dolls here’s how to proceed:
- Draw a subject you like on heavy card stock
- Leave some basic shape
- Cut out another base with a slot in the center that will serve to keep the doll standing.
You can print the paper dolls on several sites like this one.
Card games for 3 year olds
THE 3 years old children they just started going to kindergarten and they always love to draw, scribble, challenge themselves. If we want to have fun with them using simple cards, I propose a game that my son liked so much: i monsters wide mouth.
We can create sharks, minnows, monsters, puppets and even vampires!
Origami with paper
Making origami is an activity that is increasingly appreciated by both adults and children. This ancient technique refines the motor skills of the hand and wrist, stimulates attention and concentration and, above all, allows the child to understand that an object can be transformed.
If you want to try your hand at making some easy origami here are some ideas.
