As a place of discovery and enrichment, of sharing and training, the school is today too often penalized, also due to the recently implemented choices to contain the contagion. While it is a crucial institution for the development, growth and evolution of our society and our children. However, this pandemic has changed its forms.
The school is back in the center
With the aim of helping to give back to the school the central role it should have, Napisan, in collaboration with some excellent partners such as the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University and La Fabbrica, has developed the “Hygiene Together” project, an initiative aimed at nursery and primary schools that is committed to making the school a safe place again through the dissemination and teaching of good hygiene practices among children.
After all, one of the most important lessons left in legacy by this very particular historical moment is undoubtedly the fact that personal hygiene is no longer a private matter but also has an impact on the community. This is a teaching that we will no longer be able to afford to forget, and that the little ones will have the duty, helped and supported by teachers and parents, to learn to the fullest.
The project “Hygiene Together” saw, in the period between September and December 2020, a wide diffusion throughout the national territory, with 5,000 participating schools in 2,000 Italian cities and well over 700,000 students involved in various activities together with their respective teachers. In the first months of 2021, the project will grow again, involving an additional 3,000 schools throughout Italy and bringing the total number of schools involved to 8,000, with a percentage that is close to 50% of the national total if we take into account the primary (approximately 17,000 in Italy).
All this will involve an even greater commitment on the part of the brand in its role of guide useful for involving children, but also parents and teachers, in an ever wider spread of good and correct hygiene practices. The realization of this will be the donation to all the structures involved of didactic and information material created with the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University, in addition to the kit for personal and surface sanitation, for an economic commitment of more than 2 million euros. .
Finally, as already happened in the first part of the school year, there will be the possibility for teachers to participate in a hygiene-themed training course – also developed with the scientific advice of the San Raffaele University – recognized by the MIUR for the fulfillment of the compulsory education.
The impact of education and training in reality?
In support of the initiative, and with the aim of placing itself more and more effectively alongside the school and all those who directly or indirectly revolve around it, Napisan – in collaboration with La Fabbrica – has conducted a study on over 1,000 teachers of kindergartens and primary schools, with the aim of photographing the state of the art after the first months of the current school year.
Among the main evidences that emerged, already presented in September in an Ipsos research conducted by the brand, we note the strong need on the part of the teaching staff to receive and have available hygiene products, appreciated by almost 95% of the interviewees, and clear and simple educational materials, highly appreciated in 91% of cases and useful for accompanying the little ones in a completely new training path for the world of school. Very high percentages also compared to the appreciation of the activities and materials by children, which stands at around 90%.
Particular attention should then be paid to the impact that the initiatives developed by the experts of Vita-Salute San Raffaele and La Fabbrica have had on the behavior of pupils. In this regard, in fact, according to 70.3% of the teachers involved in the survey, significant improvements were observed in the spontaneous behaviors of children regarding attention to hygiene and prevention, while only in 1.2% of cases the teachers they confessed that they did not observe significant changes in attention to personal hygiene. Among the most improved behaviors, according to the teachers, the following emerge in particular:
- hand sanitation, for 88% of respondents,
- hand washing, 67%,
- the sanitation of the counters, 44%,
- the improvement related to distance maintenance, only 37%,
- interaction with peers, 35%,
- and attention to the table, 20%.
Finally, unanimous interest on the part of the families who, according to the teachers involved, expressed themselves favorably in 95% of cases, thanking the teachers for having brought, when it was most needed and when the help of the institutions still hiding, hygiene kits and information materials, with the children who were thus able to acquire new awareness on the subject and put into practice what they learned at home, in 76.8% of cases according to the parents.
The “Hygiene together” project: the various initiatives
The “Hygiene Together” project, strongly supported by Napisan since the first months of the pandemic in March 2020, saw the brand very active on the theme of personal hygiene education, through a series of initiatives dictated by the emergency but also by above all from the desire to “be present”, providing concrete contributions for the community. Among the most important initiatives, in addition to the aforementioned donation of hygiene kits and educational materials, the brand has committed to an important financial donation to the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan for the expansion of intensive care places and sub-intensive and in a series of large-scale actions dedicated to the world of education, such as the organization of online workshops for children.
Registrations to the project, aimed at nursery schools and primary schools, are still active today, and will be so also in the coming months, with the aim of guaranteeing an ever-increasing importance and dissemination of the topic of hygiene education. personal, not only at school but also in those contexts of private life, such as families, in this period so affected by the spread of the Covid-19 contagion.
