I think Mara is good. I haven’t heard it here with us. Very seldom, but I think it’s really beautiful! Unfortunately, I don’t know what meaning it has.
All the best!

what bothers me is the meaning it means the bitter … otherwise Mara would have been on our list

Mara has several meanings …
once the bitter (Hebrew), then the sad (Hebrew), the woman (Arabic), cave (Turkish), sea, ocean, waves, waves (Gaelic); as short form of Tamara – the palm, etc. etc .: D

I think the name is super beautiful and super rare …
i only know one mara and she can be seen on italian tv … although i have to say that the name is rather common in italy … but we live in germany
I have to contradict the meaning … apparently many countries have different meanings for this name
in America this name means = THE ETERNAL BEAUTIFUL
in Hawaii it means = sad, sorrowful, sad …
then I would rather say that you can use the american variant, the eternally beautiful :-))

I also think the name is very beautiful, although it means “the bitter one”. But we didn’t have Mara on our list, but Mara-Sophie.

I generally like it, but I know a very unsympathetic Mara. So there I am negatively burdened …
answer from celestine on 03/15/2007, 5:08 pm
Mara is a form of Maria and that in turn is the Greek / Latin form of Myriam.
Myriam is translated differently and the linguists do not agree at all.
It is partly derived from the Aramaic with “the bitter” (as engel already wrote), partly from the ancient Egyptian with “the beloved”, mostly from the Hebrew of “rym”, which means “to give” or “mry”, which ” to be fertile “means.
you see, the positive meanings outweigh.
definitely a wonderful name!

I think the name Mara is beautiful and it would have been at the top of my list had it not been for “bitter, saddened”. I didn’t mean to … I haven’t heard the other meanings mentioned yet.
