My husband likes “Leo” but for me it’s an abbreviation.

Leonard / Leonardo
Leonas

How do you like “Nino” instead of Nico? I know a cute little blond boy by the name and I really like him. 🙂

Leopold
Leonid

Nino… a pet name for a little Italian. Otherwise I don’t like him. (But I don’t like Nico either, if so, then Nikolas)

I think LeoPOLD is quite beautiful – much better than your other suggested names. By the way, earlier (about 20 years ago) I didn’t like the name Leopold at all (there was a birth announcement in our regional daily newspaper – and at that time I was still thinking: how can you call your son THAT… ?! – But, like I said, I like it today!). Wouldn’t this name be something for you?

And I have to honestly say that I like NiCo a lot better than NiNo. Not that you can’t forgive the latter, but then, as I said, I would take NiCo.

I once knew a boy named Marleo who was called Leo. Maybe that’s something for you?

Nino is somehow too childishly cute for me

Well, don’t want to get even more aloof.
For me, Nino and Nico are both pet forms or abbreviations.
